This was great. I loved the art especially the close ups of the characters. Bleak, the ending really hits you

Wow.  You struck every nerve.  What a horrifying and beautiful experience this was!  The religious aspects made me feel existential dread, and the struggles of the protagonist were very relatable.  The ending was truly horrifying in a beautifully powerful way.  The idea of forgetting the one I love fills me with so much fear.  I will remember this game for a long time.  I hope you can find success and make more beautiful, terrifying things.  <3

(SPOILERS)

imagine not showing up at your boyfriend's exorcism and then being surprised when he's rude to you smh smh.

srsly tho, this was yet another really solid visual novel!! :D

really loved the story and characters. the concept of everyone in your family trying to "cure" you of something they won't even tell you about is such a terrifying one. everything in this event feels so wrong and manipulative, down to the exorcist referring to clarence simply asking what he's going to drink as "resisting". the game builds such a creepy atmosphere, and it's impressive how solidly it's built considering how short it is, and how all you really do before the exorcism is talk to relatives. i really liked clarence; not only is his design super memorable (characters with long blond hair my beloveds-) but his struggle is very well written. the way he talks about his encounters with asher really worked in emphasizing the idea that they couldn't get caught. that they had to keep their relationship a secret. and that in the end, he didn't even know how a long term relationship with him would've worked. his emotions were really well written and laid out... and speaking of which, i think your 'snarky narrator' technique worked incredibly well in this plot especially, contrasting clarence's intense feelings and thoughts throughout this whole ordeal, only for these descriptions of emotions to run dry at the ending, when he's been... fixed. it was very effective! (and yes said ending did destroy me, thank you for asking-) the other characters were great too, and it was neat to see peeps from tcpc make a return! mother charity was a definitive standout in the cast, something about a fanatic leader that believes you're evil incarnate, yet is still always grinning and saying things that should be comforting... it struck a chord with me in terms of uneasiness haha.

omg a liminace game has really great art, what an original opinion- XD really tho, i think this game's visuals stand out from your other ones in a subtle way, while still looking awesome as ever. i love the sketch-like quality of some drawings (especially in clarence's busts), it was a really cool little style choice that didn't really need to be there, but it shows how much attention to detail was put into the art :D i also loved the atmosphere in the church, with snow particles floating outside, blue hues and a general aura of mysticism. like you were in an actual place reserved for a divinity haha. and there's so many other small things; the way the screen turns darker and redder as you light the candles? love that. the way the colors turn sepia when you're strapped in that table? love that. the candle? that's a good candle. i don't know why but i want to highlight the drawing of the last candle specifically. that's a good ass candle drawing. oh! and the brain! that was also a good ass brain drawing.

...where was i? oh yeah, the visuals are great! :D

the music and sounds were also great! the sarcastic applause™ making a return is always nice to see lol. loved the switch up from the normal game sounds to the uncannily realistic buzz of the lights and the... squelching of flesh when the lobotomy happens. what an uncomfortable scene my god- (in a good way ofc haha) and the music wow!! so ethereal and extremely well made. still can't believe you compose the entire ost for all your games, seems like such an impossibly difficult task from afar lol. i'm always so impressed by people who make almost all the stuff in their games by themselves haha. so yeah music was great too! again, what an original opinion XD

i only really had two problems with the game; firstly i found some typos in a few places, which weren't too big of a deal and definitively understandable for such a dialogue-heavy game, but i thought i'd mention it. and the sequence from when you talk to samuel to when the exorcism begins ran for a tad too long for me, and i would've liked if it stopped somewhere in the middle, maybe when she-who-shall-not-be-named appears lmao. but yea that's about it.

will clarence appear again? will he and asher rekindle their love? will she finally be dumped into a frozen lake like she deserves? all of this and more in chapter 4 of the cardinal park chase, coming out in your nearest itch.io server!

(also woohooo, congrats on 500+ downloads and 2000+ browser plays!!! :D)

(I also have commentary version of the playthrough.)

Very neat, heavy, and depressing game, with very neat visuals and bgms, and also tackled some topics, that still happens to this day really well. I have more... a bit.. in the description of the vid/s. But yeah. Certainly a rollercoaster of emotion/s.

(I was going to comment about this earlier, but laziness happens.)

The art and writing in this game are amazing. The story however was just tragic and I do wish there was a glimpse of a having ending. 10/10.

(+2)

The art i s amazing, the environment is beautifully done, and the story is very sad for how short the experience is, making it hit even harder than if it had been a longer one.

I saw some comments saying that it references some of your other work, and I think I'm going to have to play those now too. :D

I really enjoyed it, great job!

im gonna be honest, this is the first game to ever make me cry

Love the gameplay, the background and the story setting. it's really thrilling. It's beautiful, the interactions are charming too. The only thing I would say could be improved is the art style...but still it's a delicate game

(+1)

10/10 gameplay, totally consistent with the narrative

story 10/10, very good mystery and intrigue

art 11/10, beautiful and unique

What more can I say? I loved it!! (つ≧▽≦)つ

It was emotional, interesting and fun to play, the only thing is that I would have liked to have more missions/interactions sjsjjssj

Very beautiful game. Religion be damned. Doomed yaoi. Several other things. I loved it. Pretend this is a good, meaningful comment.

Every comment I get is meaningful :)

Another great game LiminAce! I know we played through it quick on stream but I really enjoyed this one and it's more controversial topics, even if in my opinion they shouldn't be controversial anywhere. Kinda messed up to say but I really did enjoy the ending and the connections you made to the Cardinal Park Case too (Sorry I didn't catch it right away lmao downsides to streaming). Wonderful art and music as usual too! Keep up the good work and good luck on The Cardinal Park Case or Whatever else you do next!

Btw I really loved that cute cat with the hat and it's clock-like tail wagging...

Terrifyingly bitter, yet at the same time beautiful, as if we're dancing to our doom. The last moment of a person, before they're gone encapsulated in the game. Sad that this sort of things still happens in the world...

As usual amazed how you're making all this game lmaoooo

ALSO DIDN'T EXPECT IT TO BE CONNECTED TO THE CARDINAL PARK CASE

(1 edit) (+1)

The first thing I woke up to today is a LiminAce game jam lol, even though this one is shorter and has only one ending, it's still very decent and I enjoy it! Was almost lost at the candles puzzle tho, I really didn't notice the candles at the entrance for some reason.

Spoilers:

I was half expecting the end to be more uplifting but got crushed pretty hard ("Divinity" really forbids men having fun huh), I've heard some horrible stories about parents sending their "confused child" to camps where they have to go through shady program and training that are supposed to "fix" them or sth, most got themselves tortured mentally and physically just to get back in the box of normalcy, while other stories about random cults and religious groups literally poisoning followers for "enlightenment" are more common, this version of yours is definitely new (to me at least) and a little scarier, they performed an actual surgery on the main character which I don't think is possible in this day and age yet (or maybe I just don't know enough but that's still possible to some degree I guess).

I also like that there are references to the previous game - The Cardinal Park Case, shedding some light on the mom's background - Adalia Hallows, this also makes me wonder when her twin sister will appear (just noticed recently by watching Clock's playthrough), seems like everyone will be in double trouble as long as those 2 sisters are still around, and poor Asher didn't escape contractual marriage 🥲, he must have gone thru hell just like Clarence, at least he still retains some of his "self" I guess, btw the first time I saw him I thought he was Oliver in teenage years lol.

The only thing missing now is ManlyBadassHero playing this one (you know why), it'll be epic, but hopefully no one will get too mad about this whole religion bad thingy once this game reaches certain high. Good work and keep it up!

And just like usual I also made a playthrough! I remember there was a spare word "to" somewhere in the dialogues, but everything else works fine.

(1 edit) (+1)

Thank you for playing!!! I always look forward to your playthroughs!

Spoiler: The surgical process performed on Clarence is a lobotomy. It was something that people would force others into if they weren’t considered to be “normal.” However, the process would usually leave the patient extremely docile and detached from reality, assuming they even survived it.

About the religion thing, I don’t think that people will get mad unless they happen to be insanely hypocritical! The religious critique is mostly against hypocrites that use religion as a means to propagate terrible things.

Thanks for the information, now I'm gonna have temporary paranoia about needles sticking up my prefrontal cortex 💀
